The increase of $21.66 per week ($0.57 per hour) to was a 4.15% increase bringing the Federal Minimum Wage to $543.78, which is an increase in real terms based on the Reserve Bank's 3.25% underlying inflation forecast for the year until December 2009.
This contrasts with last year's increase of $10.26 at the minimum wage level. The first AFPC increase was $27.36 but covered a 17 month period.
The Commission also departed from recent practice in deciding not to provide a tiered increase for workers earning over $700.
The decision is available on the AFPC website.
